A dispute over grapes reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation and death threats, leading to the arrests of two siblings in Texas, police said.
Briasia White, 20, was arrested on suspicion of injury to a child. Her 18-year-old brother, Lamarian Girtman, faces a charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, according to the Waco Police Department.
The alleged fight took place at about 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Tribeca Apartments on Sanger Avenue in Waco, authorities said.
That night, officers responded to a domestic disturbance, according to an affidavit obtained by Waco-based CBS and Telemundo KWTX.
According to charging documents, the siblings and their mother were outside the apartment when officers arrived. Police instructed Girtman to remain outside while they first interviewed White.
White told investigators the confrontation started after she challenged Girtman for eating grapes she had recently bought.
What began as an argument quickly escalated, authorities said.
White said Girtman became angry and shouted at her after she mentioned the grapes. She told police that she walked into another room, closed the door and locked it, but that her brother continued yelling outside, according to the affidavit.
The charging document says Girtman then repeatedly struck the door until he punched a hole through it.
White warned him that she would spray him with “mace” if he opened the door and entered the room, the affidavit states. She then reportedly acted before waiting for him to come inside.

White told officers she opened the door to prevent further damage and sprayed Girtman with pepper spray, according to investigators.
Police said Girtman shielded himself with his jacket and avoided the spray. He allegedly then punched White repeatedly on the side of her head. At one point, the affidavit says, he put an arm around her head and told her, “I’m going to kill you.”
White ultimately broke free by striking her brother, bringing the alleged attack to an end, law enforcement officials said.
Girtman also confirmed that the dispute began over the grapes, police said, though his account differed substantially from his sister’s version of events.
Girtman told investigators that White punched him in the face after becoming upset about him eating the fruit, according to the affidavit.
He also claimed that White was the first to raise her voice and become angry as the confrontation intensified, the charging document states.
Girtman did not deny striking White. He reportedly told police that he expected to go to jail, but said he remembered only part of the encounter because he blacked out in anger during the violence.
A third sibling was also present and became involved while attempting to stop the fight, police said. The younger sibling reportedly told officers that White slapped him in the face when he stepped between the two. Girtman also acknowledged that his younger brother had been slapped, according to police.
White initially denied striking the younger sibling, but after officers read her Miranda rights, she reportedly admitted her role in the altercation, according to the charging document.
Both suspects were booked into the McLennan County Jail last week and have since posted bond, jail records show.
