A man from South Carolina has admitted to the murder of his 25-year-old girlfriend, also confessing to setting her vehicle on fire with her body inside.

On Monday, Jarrett Haskell Davis confessed to the crime, leading to a prison sentence exceeding 40 years, as reported by WRDW.

Authorities discovered the charred remains of Megan Bodiford inside her burned-out car on April 30, 2024. Her disappearance was initially reported by a friend who received an alarming text from her the previous day, according to CrimeOnline.

The text message alarmingly stated, “If you don’t hear from me in 30 minutes, he killed me. He has a gun.”

Investigators revealed that Davis shot Bodiford on April 25 before abandoning her car on a utility path and setting it on fire. Fortunately, Bodiford’s 4-month-old child was found unharmed at Davis’s residence.

Davis pleaded guilty to four counts and the sentences for each will be served concurrently, WRDW said. On the main charge, murder, he was sentenced to 43 years in prison. The others: five years for possession of a weapon during a violent crime, 15 years for arson, and 10 years for desecration of human remains.
