An unsettling incident unfolded in Pennsylvania as a teenager was apprehended following allegations of shooting his parents, resulting in the tragic death of his mother the day after Christmas.
On December 27, Jarrod Noll, aged 18, was arrested “without incident” by the West Virginia State Police. This arrest concluded a day-long search that began after the devastating shooting, as reported by the Pennsylvania State Police.
The authorities were alerted to the situation at the family’s residence in Freeport Township around 1:58 p.m. on December 26, following a shooting report, as detailed in an official release.
Upon arrival, police discovered Noll’s parents, both suffering from gunshot wounds. His mother was promptly rushed to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries, according to police statements.
Noll’s father was also taken to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, he was later discharged in stable condition, providing a small relief amidst the tragedy.
The shooting allegedly took place outside the family’s home, while Noll’s younger siblings were inside the residence, CBS News reported.
After the shooting, police said Noll took off on foot, noting “An extensive search of the area was conducted; however, the suspect was not located at that time.”
Police warned that Noll may be “armed and dangerous” and urged the public to use caution as the search for Noll got underway.
“We used tracking dogs, we used helicopters, and we used police on foot searching rough terrain,” Pennsylvania State Police Sergeant Richard Sizer told CBS News. “Obviously, when you have someone on the run with a homicide warrant, on the run with a gun, it is a huge danger to the community.”
Pennsylvania State Police troopers provided an update just after 5 p.m. on Dec. 27 that Noll had been taken into custody “without incident.”
Sizer credited the “hard work” of multiple agencies with bringing the incident to a close.
Noll is currently being held in West Virginia as he awaits extradition. It is unclear whether he’s retained an attorney.
