A late-night block party in Gainesville, Florida, took an unexpected turn when two juveniles found themselves in police custody. This incident unfolded on a Saturday night at Majestic Oaks, where the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office had received reports of an unauthorized gathering.
The night of May 9, 2026, saw deputies, including those from the FOCUS Unit, actively patrolling the area around SW 20th Avenue. Their presence was prompted by intelligence suggesting that a minor was carrying a firearm amidst the festivities at an apartment complex.
Amidst the crowd, deputies identified 17-year-old Jamal Stuckey, whose attire matched the description provided to law enforcement. Upon detaining Stuckey, a search revealed a loaded rifle inside his backpack, leading to his arrest for unlawfully carrying the weapon.
In the course of the investigation, authorities also discovered that another juvenile accompanying Stuckey had two active warrants. These were related to violations of parole, including an aggravated assault charge and breaching a curfew. Both individuals were subsequently taken into custody, marking a significant intervention by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office that evening.
During the investigation, another juvenile who was walking next to Stuckey was discovered to have two active warrants out of ASO for Violation of Parole, including probation for Aggravated Assault and violating their curfew.
Stuckey and the other juvenile were arrested, while the large crowd was dispersed by law enforcement within the apartment complex.
Stuckey was charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Concealed Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Minor.
