GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a serious escalation of youth crime, 16-year-old Kyllian Rober Doby is facing adult charges. Authorities accuse him of trespassing and brandishing a firearm at a homeowner, causing alarm in a quiet neighborhood.
The incident unfolded around 6:57 p.m. on May 29. Responding to a distress call in Holly Heights North, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy met with a deeply shaken victim. The man recounted how he sat in his wheelchair near the fence when two youngsters jumped into his yard. One, matching Doby’s description, allegedly pointed a gun directly at him, leaving him fearing for his life. The gunman wore a distinctive tan hoodie and black pants, wielding what the victim identified as a black handgun with an extended magazine.
In a proactive move, the victim’s wife and son pursued the suspects in their car, capturing video footage of the duo. The video showed one individual in a tan hoodie and black pants and the other in a dark green shirt paired with gray sweatpants and carrying a black bag. It later emerged that the second suspect was merely 13 years old, and he has not been charged.
Law enforcement later tracked Doby down. When a deputy approached with emergency lights flashing on the patrol vehicle, Doby bolted. Officers caught up with him nearby, finding him dressed in white shorts, notably without a shirt. Showing a hint of remorse, Doby reportedly apologized for trying to flee from the police.
The handgun was reportedly found at the scene and matched the description provided by the victim; the victim also positively identified Doby as the subject who had pointed a gun at him. A deputy noted that Doby appeared to be the male wearing a tan hoodie in the video.
Doby has been charged as an adult with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent. Doby has multiple juvenile convictions, but the specific charges are not currently available; he was on juvenile probation at the time of his arrest.
