While authorities have yet to officially confirm the shooter’s identity, the victims have been named as Ivan Aldergot, vice president of Barku Plastics in Cleveland, located roughly 30 miles from Chattanooga, and Tobias Gleinig, another employee at the facility, as reported by the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
Barku Plastics operates as a branch of the German firm Barku Kunststofftechnik GmbH, which has been producing since 1977. The Cleveland plant began operations in 2003. Aldergot had been a part of the company for close to five years, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The Cleveland police received reports of gunfire at the plant just before 10:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Aldergot and Gleinig deceased and identified a suspect who had fled the scene by car, as detailed by the Cleveland Daily Banner. The suspect’s vehicle was tracked to a residence outside city limits in Bradley County, prompting the deployment of a SWAT team.
Following a tense six-hour standoff, law enforcement utilized robotic devices to enter the suspect’s home, where they found him deceased.
