A man from Texas has confessed to murdering his former girlfriend, resolving a mystery that began with her disappearance in 1999.

Terry Rose admitted to the crime on December 2, during a court session in Jefferson County. He acknowledged his role in the death of 34-year-old Kimberly Langwell, a single mother, as reported by Texas news outlet KFDM.

Rose’s plea bargain sets a maximum sentence of 40 years, with the final decision on his punishment scheduled for December 16.

According to KBMT, Langwell vanished on July 9, 1999, shortly after leaving her workplace around 5 p.m. Her family indicated she intended to visit Rose before heading home. Her disappearance was once highlighted on Oxygen’s Cold Justice.

Despite her plans, Langwell never made it back home. Her vehicle was discovered abandoned in an Eckerd pharmacy parking lot, with her personal belongings, including her purse and keys, still inside.

However, Langwell never returned and her car was later found abandoned in the parking lot of an Eckerd pharmacy, with her purse and keys inside the vehicle.

For years, Langwell’s disappearance remained a mystery, until Beaumont Police got a break in 2024. An informant claimed that Rose killed Langwell and then buried the body on his property, KFDM reported.

During a search of his home in June of that year, investigators discovered Langwell’s remains wrapped in a blanket and buried in a cavity beneath the floorboards of his bedroom, according to an affidavit obtained the outlet.

Rose was arrested that same month.

Terry Rose Admits to “Most” of Prosecutors Claims

When asked in court Dec. 2 by Judge Raquel West whether he’d agreed to plead guilty because “you did what they charged you with,” Rose responded “sort of,” before clarifying that he’d done “most” of what prosecutors alleged, KFDM reported.

Rose’s attorney Tom Burbank told the news outlet that Rose plans to argue at the sentencing that he killed Langwell as a result of “sudden passion.” If the judge agrees to the claim it could reduce the possible sentence to two to 20 years in prison.

Rose agreed to the plea just days before his trial was scheduled to begin on Dec. 8.
