A Texas couple was arrested in the murder of Francesco Romero, who was found wrapped in plastic on the couple’s Tomball ranch.

Narciso Banos, 49, and Francisca Carrizales, 42, were both charged with murder, aggravated kidnapping, and tampering with a human corpse, NBC affiliate Click2Houston reported.

Police began looking for Romero, 32, after his wife reported him missing last week, prosecutors told the court. He had purportedly told his spouse that he was spending Thursday night at Banos’ home and that he’d go to work from there the following morning. The wife noted that her husband sounded like he could’ve been injured, according to Click2Houston.

When Romero failed to answer his wife’s phone calls, she contacted Banos, his boss, who then revealed that Romero was allegedly having an affair with Carrizales. Romero’s wife, Ashley Gomez, does not believe her husband was having an affair, telling ABC13 that he was a devoted husband and father to their three children.

While Banos told Gomez that he had “pistol-whipped” Romero, he said that Romero left his property and that he did not know where he went, before asking that Romero’s wife come to pick up his truck and his last check. The mention of a check raised suspicions to Romero’s wife as they usually received his check through direct deposit, the outlet reported.

Eventually, Romero’s wife reported her husband’s disappearance to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and officers visited Banos’ property on Ezekiel Road in Tomball. Officers then found Romero’s truck, as well as his plastic-wrapped remains, on the property.

When Banos and Carrizales returned to their home, they consented to a search and Banos reportedly told the police, “I’m the one you’re looking for,” Click2Houston reported.

Banos ultimately told police that he repeatedly beat Romero with his fists and the stock end of a rifle, before asking Carrizales to retrieve his pistol so he could pistol-whip the man, according to Click2Houston. He then allegedly beat Romero, who was restrained, with an airsoft BB gun until it broke, before telling Romero that he could drive himself home. Badly beaten and unable to drive, Romero asked to stay the night and called his wife to let her know that he wouldn’t be returning.

Carrizales confirmed her husband’s account in a separate interview with investigators, adding that she and Banos tried to give Romero a SlimFast energy drink but he was unable to drink it. They then left the property to run errands but said they found Romero had seemingly died in their absence, after which they wrapped him in plastic, hid the body, and attempted to clean the crime scene, prosecutors told the court, according to Click2Houston.

Banos’ bail was set at $600,000, while Carrizales’ was set at $500,000. Banos is due to appear in court on October 19.
