Staff report
ALACHUA, Fla. – Deandre Deshawn Davis, 40, of Arlington, Texas, was arrested this morning on I-75 on active warrants and charged with grand theft of a vehicle and driving without a valid license.
At about 8:54 a.m. on October 1, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies learned that a white Kia sedan, reported stolen out of Arlington, Texas, was traveling northbound on I-75 near Micanopy. Deputies staged at various exits along I-75 in Alachua County, and a high-risk traffic stop was conducted about a mile south of the Alachua exit (mile marker 398). The driver, identified as Davis, was detained.
Post Miranda, Davis reportedly said he knew he was not authorized to drive the vehicle because he had gotten an email from the owner, who said she was contacting the police in Texas to report the vehicle stolen.
Davis has been charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and driving without a valid license, and he was booked on two active felony warrants from Texas, one for burglary and one for a parole violation.
Davis will appear before a judge on October 2, and his criminal history and bail will be available that afternoon.
