Police say they’re not going to charge a Texas man who reported his car stolen and then didn’t wait for officers before he shot and killed the alleged thief.
The man, who wasn’t identified, tracked the vehicle with an Apple AirTag and confronted the alleged thief at a shopping center on the southeast side of San Antonio on Wednesday afternoon, police spokesman Nick Soliz told MySanAntonio.com.
Investigators say the shooter walked up to his vehicle and had “some sort of disagreement” with the driver. Soliz said he believed the alleged thief pulled out a gun, but the vehicle owner was the only person to fire shots, and he couldn’t say if more than one weapon was found at the scene.
The shooter stayed at the scene, Soliz said, and cooperated with police.
“I urge the public to wait for police in this matter,” Soliz said. “Let us go with you. We have training.”

Investigators have not released the name of the dead man.
