This week, a San Antonio police officer found himself in legal trouble after being charged with several counts of injury to a child. The charges relate to incidents reported to have taken place throughout 2024.
Jacob Ryan, aged 24, voluntarily surrendered to authorities on Tuesday following his indictment and the issuance of an arrest warrant, according to a report by KSAT. He is currently facing three felony charges of injury to a child.
As detailed in court documents, Ryan allegedly assaulted the same child on three separate occasions in February, March, and June of 2024. The reasons behind the more than year-long delay in pressing charges have not been disclosed in the records.
Specific allegations include Ryan striking the child with his hand and by unknown means on February 13, 2024. On March 21, he reportedly used both his hand and an unidentified object to harm the child. The last incident, dated June 10, involved him allegedly lifting the child’s arm with one hand while striking with the other.
All of these incidents reportedly occurred when Ryan was not on duty. Further details revealed by KENS indicate that the victim is a girl under 15 years old. Additional information regarding the case has not been released at this time.
Ryan was released on a $10,000 bond and ordered to full house arrest with GPS monitoring. He is not allowed to have contact with the victim or possess firearms.
His next court appearance is scheduled for February 9.
The department said Ryan is a five year veteran who works in the patrol division, KSAT said. He has been placed on administrative leave while they conduct an internal investigation.
