A Texas woman is currently in custody following a grim discovery by law enforcement at a Bellmead residence. Authorities found the decomposing remains of her father, a 66-year-old man, inside the home where he reportedly resided with his adult daughter.
The body of Jerry Freeman was uncovered in a mobile home located in the 4000 block of E. Harris in Bellmead earlier this week, as reported by KWTX. This disturbing finding has shocked the local community.
Neighbors recounted that the discovery was made on Wednesday during a wellness check conducted by healthcare workers, who subsequently notified the police. Officers from the Bellmead Police Department arrived on the scene shortly before 3:00 p.m.
The owner of the mobile home park revealed to KWTX that Freeman’s daughter, 44-year-old Crystal Martin, had been living in the home with her father since 2009. Shockingly, Martin continued her daily life in the residence even as her father’s body lay deceased inside, allegedly without informing authorities.
An officer involved in the investigation described the scene in the arrest warrant, noting signs of “bloating and lividity” on the body. The warrant also detailed the unsanitary conditions surrounding the corpse, attributing the filth to “multiple dogs in the house.”
Jail records show that Martin was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse and resisting arrest. She is being held on a $5,000 bond at the McLennan County Jail.
Newsbreak reported that the City of Bellmead’s Chief of Police, Shawn Myatt, stated that he does not suspect Freeman’s death was foul play.
