A Texas man has been charged with murder after telling a friend he thought he had “blacked out” and “killed his girlfriend” Monday night.

Dylan Jones, 30, led Fort Worth police on a 40-minute chase until officers used road spikes to deflate his tires, causing him to crash, KXAS reported. During the chase, Jones wove through traffic running red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road.

The evening began for cops around 3 p.m. Monday when a 911 call requested a welfare check for 28-year-old Ariel Levy, KDFW said. The caller reported that Levy’s boyfriend, Jones, had said he “blacked out and thinks something bad happened,” the arrest warrant says. Police went to the apartment, but no one answered the door, so they left.

Shortly after 6 p.m. another 911 came in from a man who said Jones had come to his home and said he thought he’d killed his girlfriend at their apartment, KXAS reported.

“Jones showed up to the residence stating that he killed his girlfriend, Ariel, before leaving the location,” police wrote in the arrest warrant affidavit.

A witness at the residence said they tried to keep Jones there after calling 911, but he left. As police were speaking with the witnesses, Jones reportedly drove by in Levy’s car, and police tried to stop him.

After the crash that ended the chase, police still had to use a taser to bring Jones, who was armed with a .380 pistol, into custody.

Meanwhile, officers went to the apartment where Jones lived with Levy and found her dead inside with an apparent gunshot wound. They found an empty casing next to her body, which was the same caliber as the gun Jones had on him when he was arrested.

Police said Jones was uncooperative during interviews.

In addition to murder, he has been charged with evading arrest, KDFW said. A bond has not been set.
