The trial of Dr. Gerhardt Konig, a Maui-based anesthesiologist, has commenced in Honolulu, where he faces charges of attempted murder.
Attorneys from both sides have presented differing narratives of the incident that took place nearly a year ago on O’ahu’s Pali Puka trail.
Arielle recounts a harrowing experience, claiming her husband tried to pull her toward the cliff’s edge, attempted to inject her with an unknown substance, and assaulted her with a rock.
Conversely, Konig asserts he was not attempting to murder his wife but was defending himself after Arielle attacked him, following his threat to reveal her alleged affair with a married colleague.
The jurors have been presented with a 911 call from a witness, body-camera footage from an officer on the scene, and graphic images of Arielle’s severe injuries.
Konig’s adult son is expected to testify about a video call his father made after the attack that prosecutors are calling a confession.
Arielle Konig is expected to take the stand against her husband next week.
