An Illinois man has been arrested this week on suspicion of murdering his 2-month-old son, an incident that reportedly occurred several months ago.
According to WLS, the mother of the infant, Kayson Flowers, recounted that her son had been in the care of another person for a week before being returned in a stroller. The individual who returned him claimed the baby was asleep. However, upon checking, the mother realized her child was unresponsive and rushed him to the hospital. Medical professionals there determined that Kayson had passed away six to eight hours prior to his arrival.
The child’s father, Anthony Evans, 23, allegedly brought the baby back to the mother, stating that the infant had been sleeping for an extended period.
An autopsy later revealed that Kayson Flowers had suffered multiple injuries, indicative of abuse, including a brain hemorrhage. His death on April 28 was officially classified as a homicide.
During a session on Thursday, Cook County prosecutors presented allegations that Evans claimed a demon compelled him to kill his son. Prosecutors also suggested, according to CBS, that Evans had urged the child’s mother to have an abortion upon learning of her pregnancy.
Days after giving birth, Flowers’ mother was reportedly hospitalized for injuries she sustained when Evans punched her in the stomach.
Evans, arrested on Monday, is now charged with murder. He is due back in court next month.
“I want justice for my son,” Flowers’ mother told WLS. “I’m not going to rest until I get justice.”
