In a tragic turn of events, an Illinois man, Daniel Figueroa, known for his relentless work ethic to support his family, was found dead following his final delivery for Uber Eats. The 28-year-old had been juggling two jobs, working at Amazon by day and making late-night deliveries for Uber Eats.

According to WLS, an ABC affiliate, Figueroa completed a shift at Amazon on Sunday before embarking on his Uber Eats deliveries. It was during this shift, after delivering food to Loretto Hospital in Chicago at approximately 2 a.m. on Monday, that Figueroa was discovered unresponsive. Disturbingly, his delivery van was nowhere to be found.

Emergency responders rushed Figueroa to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are currently treating his death as a homicide, investigating the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.

While the investigation is ongoing, police have announced the detention of a person of interest, as revealed on Tuesday. Reports from WGN, a local CW affiliate, suggest that Figueroa may have been the victim of a carjacking involving two men and a woman.

Further details from WGN indicate that after completing his delivery, Figueroa’s movements were tracked by the doctor who placed the order. Upon noticing Figueroa’s prolonged absence, the doctor went to investigate, only to find him lying on the ground. This unfortunate discovery adds a chilling layer to the unfolding narrative of this young man’s untimely death.

Police said surveillance cameras captured Figueroa trying to stop three people from taking his van. According to the police, he was dragged for half a block before the van sped away.

Figueroa’s father told WGN that his son’s delivery at Loretta Hospital was his final drop-off of the night. He told WGN, “He was on his way home. This was going to be his last stop.”

Figueroa’s girlfriend, Sandra Guerrero, told WLS that she and Figueroa were planning to celebrate her young son’s birthday on Monday. In a GoFundMe page she started to raise money for funeral expenses and bills, she said Figueroa was the main source of financial support for her and her son, whom he treated like his own.

Authorities have not released a cause of death for Figueroa. The homicide investigation is ongoing. Both Loretto Hospital and Uber provided comments to the press stating that they were cooperating with law enforcement.
