A tragic incident unfolded in New York as a woman faces charges following the death of her 15-month-old son on Monday.
Police officers arrived at a residence in Queens to find Charlie Ramraykha unresponsive and his mother, 28-year-old Nicole Boodhai, suffering from wrist lacerations. Boodhai was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, but tragically, her son was declared dead, according to KABC reports.
“The first scream was definitely from a man, and it was loud and aggressive,” a neighbor recounted to the news outlet. “The second scream sounded like a child, terrified and in fear.”
Authorities suspect that Boodhai’s injuries were self-inflicted. Meanwhile, insiders informed the New York Post that Boodhai had contacted the child’s father before law enforcement arrived, admitting to her actions. It was also noted that Boodhai and the father were not cohabiting.
Gothamist reported that officials found no signs of trauma on Ramraykha’s body, and he was not found submerged in water. It was also claimed that Boodhai used a box cutter to inflict her wrist injuries.
Ramraykha was found unresponsive in the bathroom. Pills were discovered in the bathroom — and detectives believe the toddler had ingested them, The New York Times reported. The type of pills was not disclosed.
The medical examiner is conducting additional testing to confirm Ramraykha’s cause and manner of death.
Boodhai is charged with murder and child endangerment. It is unclear when she will be arraigned.
