Tragedy struck a North Carolina high school on Tuesday morning when a confrontation led to the fatal stabbing of one student and left another injured. The incident unfolded at North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem, sending shockwaves through the community.
The details surrounding the altercation remain unclear, as officials have not yet disclosed what sparked the fight or the identities of the students involved. In the aftermath, authorities have issued a plea for the community to refrain from sharing, liking, or commenting on videos of the tragic event, which have surfaced online. As reported by WXII, this appeal underscores the need for sensitivity and respect for those affected.
Winston-Salem Police Chief William Penn, Jr. emphasized the importance of community support during this difficult time. “Whoever is sharing this video, liking this video, commenting on this video … please think about the insensitive nature of what you’re doing,” he urged. “This isn’t the time to clout chase. Our students, our teachers, and all the staff at North Forsyth High School need us as a community to unite and put an end to senseless violence.”
Following the incident, the school was placed on lockdown around 11 a.m., a measure taken to ensure the safety of students and staff, as reported by WFMY.
Expressing the profound sorrow felt by educators, Dr. Don Phipps, Superintendent of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, stated, “Today is the worst nightmare of any educator. We hurt when our students hurt, and this is the ultimate hurt that we can possibly feel.” His words reflect the deep impact such violence has on the entire school community.
Students told WFMY the fight took place in a school bathroom, but police have not confirmed that information.
Although no real information has been released about the stabbing or those involved in the fight, Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough Jr. said in video message that a student lost “his” life.
Kimbrough said more information would be released in time.
