A tragic shooting unfolded on Monday morning when a 15-year-old student at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Texas brought a firearm to campus, wounding a teacher before taking his own life.
As reported by the Comal County Sheriff’s Office on Monday afternoon, the injured educator was hospitalized, though her current condition remains undisclosed. The student was declared deceased at the location of the incident.
In the wake of this distressing event, school officials announced the closure of the school on Tuesday, with further decisions about the week’s schedule pending. To support those affected, counselors were available at the Mamman Family Public Library in Bulverde.
The identities of both the student and the teacher have not been released, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
During a press briefing, Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds mentioned that investigators plan to interview the boy’s family to determine how he accessed the firearm, according to KSAT.
“What happened today is something no community ever wants to face, but we prepare for something that we hope never occurs,” Reynolds said.
