Authorities in New York have brought charges against a woman accused of leaving her toddler in a sweltering car for several hours.

The Middletown Times Herald-Record reports that 33-year-old Zenaida Soriano-Rincon is charged with second-degree manslaughter and reckless endangerment resulting in death. Her arrest took place on November 17.

The tragic event unfolded on September 19 in Middletown. Police responded to a report of an unresponsive child at a local healthcare facility. The child was rushed to Garnet Health Medical Center, where they later succumbed to their condition.

After a thorough two-month investigation, detectives concluded that Soriano-Rincon had left her child in the car for an extensive period of eight hours while she was at work.

Soriano-Rincon is currently detained at the Orange County jail, with bail set at $250,000 in cash, a $500,000 bond, or a $1 million partially secured bond, as detailed by the Herald-Record.

“This is the 30th hot car child death that has been confirmed as heat-related and Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke (PVH),” Jan Null, CCM, Adjunct Professor of Meteorology at San Jose State University, told CrimeOnline in an emailed statement.

The victim’s name has not yet been released by authorities. Check back for updates.
