6 p.m. Update: The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has officially determined that the tragic deaths involving an Atlanta police officer and his girlfriend were the result of a murder-suicide.
The examiner concluded that Kevin Stroner, aged 56, fatally shot Moriah Cardona, who was 44, before taking his own life at their residence.

Authorities discovered the bodies of an Atlanta police officer and a woman on Saturday in a home located in a central residential area of the city.
The deceased have been identified as 56-year-old Kevin Stroner and 44-year-old Moriah Cardona, according to a report by WXIA.
Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Prenzinna Spann said friends who had been unable to contact the pair requested a welfare check at the home in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood at about at about 4 p.m. on Saturday. They found Stroner and Cardona dead inside.
They were suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said there was no apparent threat to the community, however.
Police did not say how long Stoner had been an Atlanta officer, but he appears in an report on an incident in 2012 on the department’s Facebook page.
