In a tragic incident on Tuesday, a Las Vegas woman was fatally shot while making a 911 call.
According to an arrest report for 33-year-old Jorge Antonio Garcia, authorities were alerted to a condominium complex around 3:30 p.m. The woman had contacted 911, reporting that her ex-boyfriend was scheduled to collect his belongings but had refused to leave, as reported by KSNV.
The woman provided a description of Garcia, noting he was dressed in a neon green or yellow work T-shirt and jeans. She suspected he might be under the influence of drugs and mentioned he was armed with what appeared to be a pellet gun, which he allegedly pointed at her while threatening to shoot, as detailed by KVVU.
During the call, a man’s voice could be heard in the background, followed by the woman’s screams. The audio also captured the sounds of a struggle and what appeared to be gunfire.
When officers arrived, they discovered the front door was locked but could see the woman lying on the floor through a window. They forced their way inside and found her with multiple gunshot wounds. Three 9mm cartridge cases were recovered from the master bedroom. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A neighbor told police that the woman had three children who were not present. That same neighbor provided surveillance video showing a man who matched Garcia’s description approaching the apartment several times that day. Security video from the condo complex showed Garcia driving away.
Investigators ultimately found Garcia in a travel trailer in a neighborhood in southwest Las Vegas and took him into custody, according to KSNV.
He reportedly admitted shooting the woman, saying she was “negative” and “aggressive” and lunged at him and pushed him. He also admitted going to the apartment several times that day because he suspected she was with another man. He denied stalking her but said he often showed up unannaounced to see what she was doing.
Garcia claimed the woman had knives in her home but admitted she wasn’t armed when he shot her, according to KVVU.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
The killer appeared in court on Wednesday and was denied bond. He is due in court again on Monday.
