A tragic incident unfolded near Loyola University when an 18-year-old freshman, Sheridan Gorman, was allegedly shot and killed by a 25-year-old Venezuelan man. The young student was walking with friends to view the Northern Lights when the event occurred.
The group was near Tobey Prinz Beach when they were suddenly confronted by a man dressed in black and wearing a mask. As they attempted to flee, Jose Medina, aged 25, reportedly opened fire, tragically hitting Gorman in the back.
Authorities utilized surveillance footage to trace Medina’s whereabouts, leading to his arrest at his nearby apartment. During the arrest, officers reportedly found clothing and a .40-caliber handgun, which matched the shell casings found at the crime scene.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the shooting appears to have been a random act. Medina now faces serious charges, including first-degree murder and aggravated use of a firearm.
