Tragedy struck the world of Broadway as former child star Imani Dia Smith was tragically found dead in her New Jersey home over the weekend, the victim of a fatal stabbing.

Authorities responded to the distressing scene in Edison on Sunday morning, where police discovered Smith with critical stab wounds, as confirmed by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone. Despite being rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, the 25-year-old was declared dead shortly after her arrival.

Imani Dia Smith captured hearts with her portrayal of Young Nala in the iconic Broadway production of “The Lion King” during 2011 and 2012, according to Playbill. Her untimely death leaves behind a 3-year-old son, who was reportedly present in the home at the time of the incident.

In connection with this heartbreaking event, 35-year-old Jordan D. Jackson-Small has been apprehended and faces multiple charges, including murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and weapon-related offenses. The prosecutor’s office revealed that Smith and Jackson-Small were acquainted before this tragic occurrence, though the nature of their relationship remained initially undisclosed.

A GoFundMe campaign organized by Smith’s aunt sheds further light, indicating that Jackson-Small was, in fact, Smith’s boyfriend. This devastating loss has prompted an outpouring of grief and support from those who cherished Smith’s talent and spirit.
