Authorities have detained two individuals following the discovery of a pregnant woman’s body, identified as being from Tennessee, in Georgia, wrapped in blankets.
The Rome Police Department responded to a call on December 9, concerning the John Graham Homes located near Hull Avenue and Cedar Avenue in Rome. Upon arrival, officers found a woman’s lifeless body concealed under blankets.
Eyewitnesses provided the police with details of a red vehicle that was seen leaving the area. Law enforcement officials later intercepted this vehicle in Bartow County, apprehending 23-year-old Mystique Malachi Amaziah Taylor and Rolanda Monique Edwards, 25, whom Taylor had recently met online.
The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Kaylee B. Shackelford from Powell, Tennessee. It was revealed that Taylor had been romantically involved with Shackelford, even as he began a new relationship with Edwards.
The following day, December 10, the pair faced a judge. During the session, the judge disclosed that Taylor allegedly stabbed Shackelford multiple times.
He is also accused of beating her with a baseball bat, striking her in the head, and causing her death, according to 11 Alive.
Police announced Friday that Shackelford was determined to be pregnant at the time of her death.
Both Taylor and Edwards are being held without bond at the Floyd County Jail.
Police listed Taylor’s charges as feticide, fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, speeding, theft by receiving stolen property, and failure to obey traffic-control devices.
In addition, Taylor is also facing felony warrants for concealing the death of another, aggravated assault, two counts of felony murder, and aggravated battery. Taylor is also being held for the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.
Edward’s list of charges include party to a crime, with warrants for concealing the death of another and hindering apprehension or punishment of a criminal.
Rome Police Department stated that “this remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional charges may be forthcoming as evidence continues to be reviewed.”
