In a tragic event, a mother from Michigan faces a manslaughter charge following the untimely death of her 11-year-old daughter this past Sunday.

The incident unfolded when Sherry Leak dialed 911, reporting what she described as an “altercation” and urgently informing dispatchers that she was administering CPR to her daughter, according to a report by WOOD.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the young girl, known to her community and schoolmates at Fruitport Community Schools as Mialah Leak, could not be revived and was declared deceased at the scene.

Authorities have not disclosed specific details regarding the cause of Mialah’s death or the nature of her injuries, indicating that a thorough autopsy is still pending to provide clarity in this heartbreaking case.

Meanwhile, Sherry Leak remains in custody without the possibility of bond, as she awaits her court arraignment, which is scheduled for Tuesday.

Another child was removed from the home by Children’s Protective Services, Muskegon County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Maat said.

That child was likely Mialah’s twin sister, who was adopted along with Mialah when the children were young, a neighbor told WZZM.

The neighbor, Christine Hagen-Galloway, claimed that Leak and her daughter fought “a lot.”

“Okay, I’ve seen some things I would rather not see, and I’ve heard things I’d rather not hear,” she said.

Hagen-Galloway also claimed that multiple people had contacted Child Protective Services about Leak’s treatment of Mialah, but nothing was ever done. WZZM was unable to confirm any instances of prior abuse at the home, and Fruitport Township Police could not provide any information on any reports at the house.

Another neighbor, who said she had lived next door to the Leaks for more than a decade, told WOOD she had never witnessed any problems at the house.

Kristen Williams told the station Mialah was often outside playing with the other children in the neighborhood.

“I mean, I watched this girl grow,” she said.
