A tragic incident unfolded in Indiana as authorities delve into the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman who was fatally shot while on a cleaning assignment.
Maria Florinda Rios Perez de Velasquez, aged 32, was discovered with a gunshot wound on the front porch of a home in Whitestown, where she had presumably gone for a cleaning job. The police, responding to the scene, suspect she mistakenly arrived at the wrong address, leading the home’s occupant to shoot her from inside, as reported by WRTV.
Contrary to this theory, de Velasquez’s husband firmly believes they were at the correct location. He emphasized that he had verified the address twice before they approached the premises. Investigations quickly confirmed the couple’s presence was part of a legitimate cleaning service, dismissing any notion of a break-in, as detailed by the Indy Star.
The Boone County Coroner’s Office has classified de Velasquez’s death as a homicide, having determined she succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head.
Following a thorough probe by the Whitestown Metropolitan Police, the case has been handed over to Boone County prosecutors. They will decide whether to file charges. The identity of the homeowner remains undisclosed, pending any legal action.
Meanwhile, Whitestown police officials denied claims that the homeowner is a local police officer.
“No officer—whether currently serving, retired, resigned, terminated, or otherwise affiliated with the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department or any other police department—resides at or has any personal connection to the location of the incident,” the department said in a statement issued to WRTV. “These inaccurate claims pose a serious safety risk to uninvolved officers and their families and must cease immediately.”
