In a tragic incident that unfolded on February 1, a shootout at a Georgia hotel resulted in the death of one police officer and left another gravely injured. The confrontation, which has sent shockwaves through the local community, occurred at a Holiday Inn in Stone Mountain.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has disclosed that the officer who lost his life in the line of duty was 25-year-old Pradeep Tamang. Alongside him was Officer David Reed, who despite being critically injured, is expected to make a recovery. This news comes as a relief amid the somber circumstances surrounding the event.
The GBI’s press release detailed that the officers responded to the hotel around 7:30 a.m. The call to action came after a report of credit card fraud was lodged by an individual from South Carolina, who discovered unauthorized charges made at the Holiday Inn.
Upon arrival, the officers approached the suspect, 35-year-old Kevin Andrews, to investigate the allegations of fraudulent credit card activity. What transpired next led to the tragic shootout, marking a dark day for law enforcement in the area.
When the officers arrived, they questioned the suspect, identified as Kevin Andrews, 35, about allegations regarding fraudulent credit card use.
While trying to arrest Andrews, he allegedly pulled out a handgun and began shooting. The officers returned fire; Andrews sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Atlanta’s 11Alive News reports that Andrews has a criminal history that includes felony convictions for robbery, gun and narcotics offenses.
His latest charges include:
