In a chilling incident in Florida, a man is reported to have pointed a rifle at a wounded individual, demanding his keys while counting down ominously from five to one before opening fire. This harrowing scene unfolded as described by law enforcement officials.
The accused, 32-year-old Sylvester Grice-Jordan, faces charges of second-degree murder and using a firearm during the commission of a felony, following the death of Yasmany Rodriguez Fernandez. According to a probable cause affidavit, officers from Miami Gardens Police Department were dispatched shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday to the 3300 block of NW 177th Terrace in response to a reported shooting incident.
Upon their arrival, officers encountered Grice-Jordan allegedly brandishing a rifle. The police instructed him to relinquish the weapon, which he complied with. The lifeless body of Fernandez was discovered on the porch, riddled with gunshot wounds. Inside the residence, authorities found the victim’s wife, stepdaughter, and an 8-month-old baby, all of whom were unharmed.
Investigations revealed that Fernandez’s stepdaughter had been in a relationship with Grice-Jordan. The couple had shared the home where the tragic event transpired since April. However, due to escalating disputes, the victim’s wife had requested Grice-Jordan to vacate the premises, which he did on December 15. Notably, Grice-Jordan had left his dog behind, prompting the family to ask him to retrieve the pet after it caused a mess inside the house.
This request led to a heated altercation. According to the affidavit, the suspect agreed to collect the dog, but upon his arrival, a confrontation ensued with the victim. At the time, both men were armed, although neither had drawn their weapons. Following a brief indoor exchange, Grice-Jordan stepped outside, and Fernandez, leaving his gun on a table, pursued him to the porch where their argument continued, ultimately leading to the tragic outcome.
The wife, stepdaughter and baby were inside when they heard a gunshot. Fernandez yelled that he was shot and told them to call 911.
Surveillance video captured the suspect asking why Fernandez had a gun and then demanding the victim’s keys, the affidavit said.
“The defendant then told the victim he had five seconds and started a countdown from five to one as he was still holding the rifle at the victim’s head as he laid on the ground shot,” cops wrote.
Grice-Jordan allegedly fired several more shots.
Cops arrested Grice-Jordan and took him to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where he remains without bond. He has a hearing set for Monday morning.
