A man is in custody after comedian Reginald “Reggie” Carroll was gunned down Wednesday in Southaven, Mississippi.
Authorities responded to the area of Burton Lane on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 after getting a report of a shooting. They found a male victim, later identified as Carroll, “suffering from gunshot wounds,” according to a statement from the Southaven Police Department.
Emergency responders applied life-saving measures to the 52-year-old comic, but Carroll ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Police announced Saturday that a male suspect was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection to the shooting. They did not identify the suspect or provide any additional information about what led to the fatal confrontation, which police described as an “isolated shooting.”
“Our thoughts [are] with the family of Mr. Carroll,” the Southhaven Police Department stated. “Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding.”
Who was comedian Reggie Carroll?
Carroll, who was based in Baltimore, performed his standup routines at comedy clubs across the country. He hosted and produced the 2023 special Knockout Kings of Comedy, according to IMDb. Carroll also appeared in the 2022 TV movie Rent & Go, made a guest appearance in one episode of the show The Parkers in 2000, and also appeared on Showtime at the Apollo that same year.

“This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again, and the last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together,” she said, according to Deadline, adding “that’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time, so I have no sad tears because all of our times together was amazing.”
Carroll’s brother Jonathan Carroll also posted a message on Facebook in honor of the slain comedian.
“To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received-thank you!!!,” he wrote, signing the message from “The Carroll Brothers.”
Carroll is also being remembered by those in the comedy industry in Baltimore where he frequently performed.
“Rest in power,” Baltimore’s Mobtown Comedy club posted on Instagram, tagging the late comedian’s account. “Thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on. The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family.”
The investigation into Carroll’s death remains ongoing.
