A tragic incident unfolded in Minnesota when a man allegedly shot the mother of his children before attempting to take his own life. The suspect, Demarco Jones, aged 29, now faces murder charges in connection with the death of 26-year-old Tatianna Ehnes-Giles.

On December 24, authorities responded to a distressing call at the home shared by Ehnes-Giles and her mother. According to a press release by Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena, the couple’s two young children were present in the home during the shooting. Jones, who survived the incident, is receiving medical care in a Minnesota hospital.

Ehnes-Giles’ mother was the one who discovered the horrific scene and contacted authorities. She reported to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office that her daughter had been shot in the head by her boyfriend, Jones, who was found lying on the bedroom floor, seemingly in a trance-like state.

Upon arrival, deputies found Jones conscious enough to inform them that the firearm used in the shooting was still present in the bedroom. Investigators recovered the gun alongside two spent shell casings. Tragically, Ehnes-Giles was pronounced dead at the scene, while Jones was quickly transported to the hospital.

The criminal complaint reveals a chilling account from Ehnes-Giles’ mother, who said one of the children came running to her, frightened by a loud noise, and exclaimed, “Daddy fell.” She then found Jones on the floor groaning. He reportedly claimed, “I’ve been shot. She shot me, call 911,” but later allegedly confessed, “I shot her.”

The woman told police that she found her daughter “covered in blood, with her hands in front of her face as if she was protecting herself.”

Deputies spoke to Ehnes-Giles’ brother, who was also at the house at the time and said Jones told him that “he shot himself and caught [Ehnes-Giles] cheating.”

Jones was charged with second-degree intentional murder and is in custody while receiving treatment at the hospital. He will be booked into the Dakota County Jail after he is medically cleared, with a bond set at $2 million. His court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 5.
