A Florida man is now facing serious legal repercussions after allegedly fatally shooting his two brothers during a heated argument on a hunting trip in western New York.

Scot Thompson, a 65-year-old from Englewood, Florida, was taken into custody on the morning of November 24. He is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm, as confirmed by the New York State Police in a news release.

Authorities responded to the situation shortly after 10 p.m. on November 23, when state troopers arrived at a hunting cabin in Allen, New York. Allen is a small town located about 70 miles southeast of Buffalo.

Upon reaching the scene, police discovered the lifeless bodies of Scot’s brothers, Mark Thompson, aged 70 from Canterbury, Connecticut, and David Thompson, aged 69 from Port Charlotte, Florida.

Initial investigations revealed that the three brothers had been involved in a physical altercation at the hunting cabin. The confrontation escalated, leading one of the brothers to dial 911. During the conflict, Scot allegedly used a rifle to fatally shoot Mark and David before fleeing the scene in David’s vehicle.

Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Geneseo Police Department were able to track down the vehicle, and they took Scot into custody “without incident,” per the news release.

Scot was booked the following morning with no bail set, according to Allegany County Sheriff’s Office inmate records.

Scot is expected to be taken to Allegany County Jail for his arraignment, at which point he will enter a plea. It’s unclear whether he has retained an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Mark and David at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., police said.

Authorities’ investigation into the deadly incident is ongoing.
