A trial date has been scheduled for a former beauty queen titleholder in Georgia, accused of killing her ex-boyfriend’s son.

According to Court TV, Trinity Madison Poague appeared in court Thursday in Sumter County, on charges that include malice murder, felony murder (two counts), cruelty to children (first degree), and aggravated battery (two counts).

As CrimeOnline previously reported, police arrested Poague in January 2024 after Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) police contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) on January 14 last year, in response to an unresponsive toddler.

The child, identified as 1-year-old Romeo “Jaxton” Angeles, passed away upon arrival at the Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus.

According to an indictment, Poague is accused of causing “inflicting blunt force trauma” to the victim’s torso and head.

WALB reports that the incident happened in a dorm room at GSW, where Poague had been enrolled as a freshman.

Students at the “Oaks 2 Dormitory” reported hearing crying coming from Poague’s room.

“That kid was crying for a long time until everyone said that suddenly it just stopped. And no one knew what happened,” student Lilly Waterman told WRDW.

Poague pleaded not guilty during a hearing last year. The child’s father, Julian Williams, said that the not guilty plea felt like a “slap in the face.”

“I feel very frustrated and upset,” Williams said. “With her pleading not guilty knowing that she is guilty is just not right. I feel like the court is trying to give her a slap on the wrist.”

“This feels like a slap in the face to me and my family. All we want is justice for my son. Letting her out and being free is not right. She took an innocent 1-year-old’s life.”

The trial is scheduled to begin in December.

Poague was crowned Miss Donalsonville in 2023 and also competed in the National Peanut Festival Pageant, according to Live 5.
