Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Iban Zephaniah Banks, 26; Landon Kirell Coleman, 21; and Lemorris Micah Olorunfem Dexter III, 24, were arrested early this morning after a stolen gun, a drum of ammunition, and a Glock switch were reportedly found in their car during a traffic stop.

At about 10:40 p.m. on August 21, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 7300 block of W. Newberry Road for “very obvious illegal window tint” and an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Banks, the front seat passenger was Coleman, and Dexter was in the back seat. All three have felony convictions as juveniles or adults.

Based on marijuana in plain view in the vehicle, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and the search produced “a large amount” of marijuana that had been placed in a cup containing a pink liquid; deputies reported that Coleman had been seen reaching across the driver’s seat to place the cup in a cup holder, and it appeared that he had been trying to destroy the marijuana. A bag with marijuana residue was also reportedly found in Coleman’s lap.

A large drum-style magazine, loaded with 42 rounds of 9mm ammunition, was reportedly found under the driver’s seat. A single round of 9mm ammunition was reportedly found loose in the back seat, where Dexter had been sitting, and a Glock switch was reportedly found on the floor where he had been sitting.

In the engine compartment of the vehicle, deputies reportedly found a Glock 19 Gen 5 with a slide that had been stolen in July 2024 and a frame that had been stolen in November 2024.

A search of Dexter reportedly produced about 1.6 grams of marijuana. None of the defendants had medical marijuana cards.

Post Miranda, all three defendants reportedly declined to speak with deputies.

Banks has been charged with possession of a machine gun, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, and two counts of grand theft of a firearm. He has a juvenile conviction and two adult felony convictions. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $340,000.

Coleman has been charged with possession of a machine gun, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, two counts of grand theft of a firearm, tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of distributing drugs. Coleman has juvenile convictions between 2015 and 2020 and two adult felony convictions; he has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release on July 25, 2025. Judge Miller-Jones set bail at $530,000.

Dexter has been charged with possession of a machine gun, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by an adjudicated delinquent, two counts of grand theft of a firearm, and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. He has one felony conviction and two misdemeanor convictions and has an active warrant out of Miami-Dade County. Judge Miller-Jones set bail at $342,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
