Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Dominic J. DeGrego, 25, and Hannah Elizabeth Hofmann, 24, were arrested yesterday and charged with stealing a vehicle from Lake County.

On September 20, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) about a stolen red Bronco that was pinging in an area east of Newnans Lake.

An ASO Deputy went to the location, found the vehicle, and spoke with the homeowner, who said DeGrego, a friend of hers, had arrived at her house earlier in the day with Hofmann.

Post Miranda, DeGrego reportedly denied knowing anything about the Bronco or why it was there. He said a friend of his had dropped off the Bronco and then left.

Post Miranda, Hofmann reportedly admitted that she and DeGrego had stolen the Bronco. She reportedly said they were “high” on “meth” when she drove DeGrego to where the vehicle was parked, and then she followed DeGrego in a separate vehicle until that vehicle started overheating. She said she then got into the Bronco and traveled with DeGrego to the home where it was found.

DeGrego and Hofmann have been charged with grand theft of a vehicle on behalf of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

On the way to the jail, DeGrego reportedly told the deputy he had messed up and didn’t mean to lie about the Bronco.

DeGrego has served three state prison terms out of Lake, Volusia, and Orange Counties, with his most recent release in May 2025. Hofmann has served one state prison sentence out of Marion County on six charges in three cases, including three charges of grand theft of a vehicle, and was released in February 2025.

Judge Sheree Lancaster set bail at $75,000 for DeGrego and $50,000 for Hofmann.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
