Two individuals are currently in custody in Georgia, facing extradition to North Carolina on charges related to a murder case.

Jonathan Charles Shores, 33, was reported missing by his family on November 11. Tragically, his body was not discovered until November 20, shortly after the arrests of 26-year-old Jose Guadalupe Lopez and his 31-year-old girlfriend, Brennan Summer Alexander, in Georgia. This information comes from the Davidson County, North Carolina, Sheriff’s Office.

Initially, Georgia authorities were unaware of Shores’ disappearance when they stopped Lopez in Richmond County on November 10. Lopez was driving Shores’ vehicle and was arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon. The vehicle was released to Alexander, who later fled and was subsequently arrested the following day in Columbia County for a hit-and-run incident.

It wasn’t until then that Georgia authorities connected the vehicle to the missing persons case in North Carolina. Upon further inspection, they discovered a potential bullet hole and “biological evidence” inside the car.

Detectives from Davidson County traveled to Georgia to advance their investigation, transporting Shores’ vehicle back to North Carolina for additional examination. Soon after, Lopez faced charges in North Carolina for robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Alexander was charged as an accessory after the fact to these crimes.

In the course of the investigation, detectives determined that Lopez shot Shores on November 9, and he and Alexander left the scene in Shores’ vehicle, taking Shores’ body with them before dumping it in Fairfield County, South Carolina, some 130 miles from the crime scene.

After authorities found the body, Lopez received further charges of first degree murder and concealing a death, with Alexander charged with accessory to those crimes.

Authorities have not described a motive for the murder, and the timeline for the suspects’ extradition is unknown.
