Laken Snelling, the 21-year-old University of Kentucky student and STUNT team member accused of hiding her dead baby in a closet, has withdrawn from the school, a spokesperson for the school said.
“She withdrew last week,” Jay Blanton, Vice President for University Relations and Chief Communications Officer for the University of Kentucky, told Oxygen.
As a result, Snelling is no longer a member of the STUNT team. “STUNT is a competitive team within athletics,” Blanton explained. “They aren’t part of cheerleading. Cheerleading is not a varsity sport at UK or within the NCAA.”
What is Laken Snelling charged with?
Snelling, the mother of the baby whose body was found in a closet, according to a Lexington Police Department statement, was charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant.
She was taken into custody on August 31 after police were dispatched to a residence on Park Ave. near the school at around 10:30 a.m. for an unresponsive infant on August 27, according to police.
Officers at the scene found the infant “wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag,” according to a police statement obtained by WLWT.
What did Laken Snelling infant’s autopsy reveal?
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office released a report last week stating that a “preliminary autopsy has been completed; the findings are inconclusive.”
“Extensive microscopic analysis are essential to determine the cause and manner of death,” the report added. It revealed that the infant was male and noted the date of death as August 27.
Where is Laken Snelling now?
After pleading not guilty and posting a $100,000 bond, Snelling is now on “home incarceration with no ankle monitor” and is “to live with parents,” LEX18 reported, citing a court citation.
