Boulder County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado announced that a body found Saturday in a “hard-to-reach” area above Boulder Canyon Drive matches the description of missing University of Colorado student, Megan Trussell.

According to Denver’s ABC 7, Rangers from the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks contacted the sheriff’s office at 10:41 a.m. after discovering a deceased female. Investigators located a body at the scene that matched the missing student’s description.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will confirm the identity, cause, and manner of death, but police believe it’s that of Trussell.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Trussell was lseen laay Sunday at her campus residence hall.

Denver7’s Adria Iraheta reported that volunteers searching for Trussell earlier Saturday indicated that authorities were focused on recovering the body in the same area.

Family friend Judy Brocato told AnC 7 that Trussell didn’t hike much and had left in “big white platform sneakers.”

“It is very perplexing how she just seems to have disappeared,” she said. “It doesn’t make sense. So, we’re just trying to piece that together.”

USA Today reports that the Colorado Department of Transportation temporarily closed Boulder Canyon Drive, during the investigation.

It allowed “investigators access to recover the decedent, conduct the investigation, and for the safety of first responders working in the area due hazardous road conditions created by the weather,” the sheriff’s office said.
