GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville Police Department has released additional information about a shooting on Monday at the Come N Go at 1150 NE 16th Avenue; Courtney Edward Crosby, 33, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting arrest, and additional charges are pending further investigation.
On July 24, Crosby called 911 to report that someone shot at him at the Come N Go; he said the shooter was in a U-Haul van and was stopped at the traffic light at NW 16th Avenue and N. Main Street.
GPD officers immediately responded to the area, conducted a traffic stop on the U-Haul, and ordered the driver from the van. The driver complied and was detained and placed in a patrol vehicle.
While the officers were conducting the investigation, Crosby allegedly ran toward the patrol car and tried to open the car door, yelling that he was going to kill the U-Haul driver. Officers intervened and attempted to handcuff Crosby, who allegedly physically resisted. Officers were eventually able to detain Crosby and place him in a separate patrol vehicle.

Officers conducted interviews of both parties on the scene, and the investigation revealed that the driver of the U-Haul van was in the parking lot of Bentley’s, located at 1138 NE 16th Avenue, when shots were fired and he fled the area in the U-Haul vehicle.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured Crosby exiting the Come N Go in the adjacent lot while firing a gun, and Crosby’s vehicle sustained bullet holes. In addition, a firearm was reportedly located inside the vehicle. A check of Crosby’s record revealed that he was a convicted felon.
Crosby complained of physical injuries and was transported to the hospital and then to the Alachua County Jail. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting without violence.
