A Utah man was arrested on Friday for the death of his infant daughter before the New Year.

Ogden Police said they were called about an unresponsive baby on December 27. The 4-month-old girl was first taken to local hospital and then transferred to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, where she died, KSTU reported.

An arrest report said the child had a “catastrophic” brain bleed that was likely the result of “non-accidental Abusive Head Trauma.”

The infant’s mother told police that the baby had been fine before her father, 27-year-old Nicholas James Horsley, took her into another room. When he came out about 10 to 20 minutes later, the mother said, the infant was “completely lifeless and not breathing.”

While investigating, police said they found marijuana on a coffee table in easy reach of the couple’s two other children, 6 and 18-months.

Horsley is charged with child abuse homicide and endangerment of a child. He’s being held without bond.
