Investigators Question if Belinda Temple Died During "Botched" Burglary: VIDEO

Investigators looking into the 1999 homicide of a Texas mother will have plenty to say in the upcoming Season 2 premiere of Prosecuting Evil with Kelly Siegler, as seen in a recent teaser of the two-hour special.

Chilling police video captures the vantage points of authorities as they walked through the home of Belinda Temple, the 30-year-old murder victim discovered shot to death in her Katy, Texas home. Viewers sitting in for the episode — which premieres Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 8/7c on Oxygen — will witness a walk-through of the crime scene and see why the setting struck experts as peculiar.

“Right away, investigators are noticing things that the average person doesn’t notice and appreciating that things just aren’t quite adding up,” Siegler told producers.

Here’s why the crime scene appeared “botched” from the get-go.

Why didn’t investigators believe it was a burglary?

A preview of Prosecuting Evil showed what authorities saw after securing the living area of the Temple home.

“As we went through the first floor, we saw that there was a television lying by the table, and it’s still plugged in,” said one observer.

Another noted that the assailant pulled the drawers out, “But everything was neat and tidy in the drawers,” he said.

“If this was, in fact, a burglary, it was botched,” said a third individual, “because a burglar’s gonna take whatever they can find to carry out of a house.”

Still, jewelry belonging to the victim and other valuable items were left precisely where they belonged. Another suspicious aspect of the crime scene involved broken glass at the back door, also shown in the preview of Prosecuting Evil.

“One thing about the forced entry to the back door is if the door was in a closed position, and someone from outside forced entry by breaking the glass to get in to turn the knob, you would expect to the see the glass going in that direction,” another explained. “The glass was not where it should be.”

According to the man speaking about the back door, the glass had been “shattered” inside and to the left — not straight into the house — so the shards landed in front of the fireplace. It suggested to detectives that the door had already been open when the presumed killer broke the window.

Who was Belinda Temple?

Belinda Temple, 30, was a high school teacher who, on the afternoon of January 11, 1999, was brutally shot to death in the walk-in closet of her home, about 30 miles west of Houston. At the time, she was eight months pregnant with her second child, a daughter.

Siegler called it the “most contentious case” of her prosecutorial career, one that not only went unsolved for years, but also resulted in an overturned conviction. But Siegler, after years of silence, promises to “set the record straight about what it took to finally get justice for the victims and their family against an unrelenting defense team,” per the official description.

Siegler will explain how the case of Belinda Temple “put her career on the line as her competitors challenged her credibility,” as previously reported by Oxygen.

Belinda Temple’s case will be the first of Siegler’s several undertakings this season. The murders of two prosecutors, the homicide of Farah Fratta, and a serial killer targeting senior citizens, among others, will also be featured.
