One of the last two New Orleans inmate escapees has been captured.

NOLA.com reports that on Friday, around 11 a.m., Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson received an anonymous tip regarding the whereabouts of Orleans Parish Justice Center escapee Antoine Massey.

Massey, 33, was reportedly found at a rental home in Hollygrove in the 9400 block of Stroelitz Street. Louisiana State Police and federal agents, including those from the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Marshals Service, swarmed the home and took Massey into custody by 3:30 p.m. Massey surrendered peacefully and was taken to Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, the search was underway in Louisiana after 10 inmates allegedly escaped from a jail approximately six weeks ago on May 16. The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office said inmates tampered with a defective cell door, which broke open, then breached a wall behind a toilet and fled via a supply dock door. The inmates are also believed to have scaled a wall before crossing the interstate.

On the day of the breakout, Kendall Myles, 20, was discovered hiding under a car at a parking garage at Hotel Monteleone.

Two more inmates, Robert Moody and DKenan Dennis, were taken into custody, as WDSU reported. Moody was captured around 7:30 p.m. on May 16 by Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies near Central City. Officers found Dennis the same day near Chef Menteur Highway and Dale Street in New Orleans East.

On May 19, Gary Price, 21, was taken into custody, and Corey Boyd, 19, was arrested on May 20, making them the fourth and fifth out of the 10 inmate escapees to be captured.

On Memorial Day, Lenton Vanburen was captured in Baton Rouge, while Leo Tate and Jermaine Donald were taken into custody in Texas, according to WDSU.

Derrick Groves, 27, is the only remaining escapee still not apprehended, according to NOLA.com.

At the time of Massey’s arrest, there was no information concerning whether there were any other people in the house.

Massey appeared via Zoom before Magistrate Commissioner Jay Daniels from the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, where he is being held on a charge of aggravated escape.

Assistant Attorney General Daniel Smart asked Daniels to deny bond, a request defense attorney Steve Smith called “absolutely ridiculous.”

“This man is literally the walking definition of a flight risk,” Smart argued. “He has cost the taxpayers of the state and the city untold millions of dollars. And he can sit at Angola until his case is resolved. The state is going to be seeking, at a bare minimum, an additional 10 years consecutive to whatever else he gets.”

The judge ruled Massey to be held without bond.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI, or at fbi.gov/neworleansfugitives, Tipsters can also contact Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or at CrimestoppersGNO.org, or the Louisiana State Police Fusion Center at 225-925-4192.
