Mica Miller experienced love more than once in her lifetime.
At 18, Mica—whose story is explored in Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife—married Jeremy Deas, a fellow member of her church.
According to the docuseries, their marriage changed dramatically three years later when Mica admitted she had been having an affair with John Paul Miller, the pastor of Solid Rock Church and a man 15 years older than her.
The revelation ended both marriages and sent shockwaves through the close church community, though the congregation eventually accepted Mica and John Paul as a couple.
The two married in 2017, but those close to Mica said the relationship did not become the life she had hoped for. In the docuseries, friends and family accused John Paul of being abusive and controlling during their marriage—allegations he has strongly denied.
Just two days after serving John Paul with divorce papers, Mica tragically died by suicide on April 27, 2024.

Who is Jeremy Deas?
Mica began attending Solid Rock Church with her family when she was 13 years old, ultimately becoming the worship leader in charge of the choir just three years later.
It was there her family told Netflix that Mica met Jeremy, while they both were still in high school.
“I remember Mica meeting Jeremy and she just—she loved this boy,” her sister Sierra Francis shared. “He would carry her around and walk her in his arms and they were just inseparable. And it was young love.”
Her sister Abigail Francis added that Jeremy was a “Godly man” who was devoted to his church.
“I think Mica knew early on that she wanted to be a pastor’s wife,” Sierra explained, “And I really did think like, you know, they’re gonna grow up, they’re going to get married, start a church or an orphanage or some kind of ministry.”
When Did Mica Miller and Jeremy Deas Get Married?
When Mica was 18, Jeremy proposed and the couple tied the knot on Sept. 29, 2012 with John Paul—Jeremy’s mentor—officiating the service.
“She was so excited to get married,” Sierra said in the docuseries. “She was just like butterflies and all excited.”
After the wedding, Mica began working as John Paul’s assistant, often spending her days at the church. She also served as a nanny for John Paul and his first wife Alison Williams.
Mica Miller and John Paul Miller Begin an Affair
According to Mica’s family, Jeremy and Mica also often went on double dates with John Paul and Alison.
“Mica was so heavily influenced by John Paul because he was 15 years older than her, he was her pastor,” Sierra said in the docuseries. “He was her mentor, he was her church leader.”
Three years into the marriage, her family told Netflix that her relationship with John Paul turned romantic.
In July 2015, John Paul admitted to the congregation he’d had a “moral failing” in his marriage, according to The Death of the Pastor’s Wife.
Alison also referenced the affair in an 2024 affidavit requesting emergency custody of the couple’s children and referred to Jeremy as “J.P.’s best friend.”

“The affair between J.P. and Mica tore our personal and church family apart,” she wrote, “and caused an imaginable amount of pain and discord in the lives of so many innocent people who truly trusted and believed in. J.P.”
When Did Mica MIller and Jeremy Deas Get Divorced?
The infidelity ended Mica and Jeremy’s marriage.
He filed for divorce on Sept. 14, 2016, according to court records reviewed by Oxygen.
When Did Mica Miller and John Paul Miller Get Married?
Mica and John Paul’s relationship, however, survived the scandal and the couple married in December of 2017.
John Paul has described it has a happy life together.
“We were good for each other. She was incredibly affirming. She was a great pastor’s wife,” he told the Sun News. “She always wanted me to look in the very best light possible.”
However, Mica’s family and friends alleged in the docuseries that she often told them aspects of her marriage that they viewed to be abusive and controlling, like not letting her go to sleep until she had sex with him, dictating what time she woke up or controlling her bipolar medications.
In one journal entry shared in the docuseries Mica allegedly wrote, “Since the day we became husband and wife I have been abused in every way I can think of—emotionally, sexually, spiritually and physically.”
John Paul did not participate in the docuseries, but has adamantly denied any allegations of abuse in the past.
“Never once in any way shape or form,” he told ABC 11. “Not any type of abuse. Not physical. No type of abuse ever.”
Mica left the relationship before her 2024 death. Just two days after serving John Paul with divorce papers, she purchased a handgun, drove to North Carolina’s Lumber River State Park and placed a call to 911 declaring her intention to take her own life, according to a statement from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Her body was discovered a short time later in the water, not far from the gun. Her death was ruled a suicide.
Where is Jeremy Deas Today?
Much of Jeremy Deas’ life after the divorce remains a mystery. He has continued to stay involved in Myrtle Beach area churches, including Christ United, where he is listed as a speaker.
He also continued to spread God’s word in a 2020 Daily Devotional video on Facebook on behalf of the church, in which he talked about appreciating the beauty of God’s work in the world.
An email address once associated with Jeremy through the church is no longer in service. Oxygen also reached out to Christ United, but did not receive an immediate reply.
Where is John Paul Miller Today?
In the aftermath of Mica’s death, John Paul found himself at the center of a federal investigation.
Federal prosecutors have accused the pastor of stalking Mica in the months after she left the relationship, posting a nude photo online without her permission, tracking her movements, damaging her tires and calling her more than 50 times in one day, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of South Carolina. As a result, he’s facing ongoing charges of cyberstalking and lying to federal authorities.
John Paul has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Oxygen has reached out to his attorney, but did not receive an immediate reply.
Though Solid Rock Church shuttered it’s doors in 2024, John Paul continues to preach today to a small group of 15 to 20 parishioners, Tudum reported.
In 2025, he remarried parishioner Suzie Skinner in a beachside wedding, according to FITSNews.
