Elizabeth Holmes and her fiancé, Billy Evans, have had anything but a conventional romance.
The pair met while federal investigators were examining Holmes over fraud and conspiracy allegations tied to her collapsed blood-testing company, Theranos, according to The New York Times.
They had their first child just days before Holmes’ criminal trial was scheduled to start, then welcomed a second child only months before she began her 11-year prison term.
While Holmes is incarcerated, Evans, an heir to the Evans Hotel Group, has continued to stand by the disgraced founder. He has also launched a healthcare-testing start-up with parallels to the defunct Theranos business.
The couple’s relationship will be explored more closely in the documentary You Can See Everything, set for release in October. The film follows Evans and Holmes during the weeks leading up to her surrender to prison.
“Everyone tried to break us, but instead we forged an unbreakable bond,” Evans told People. “She’s my best friend and soulmate. I believe in her in every way.”
Here is what to know about Evans and his relationship with Holmes today:
How Did Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans Meet?
Holmes and Evans first crossed paths at a Fleet Week charity event in fall 2017, as the Theranos scandal was unfolding.
“I was captivated by her childish wonder and authenticity,” Evans wrote in a letter submitted to the judge before Holmes’ sentencing, according to ABC 7. “She listened more intently than anyone I had ever met.”
Holmes said she felt a similar connection with Evans, who spent five years earning a bachelor of science degree in economics from MIT, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“I was totally in love with him. I loved him,” she told People. “We talked for hours. It was the most pointed moment in my life. It’s when I trusted my heart.”
Still, Evans admitted to having doubts about pursuing a romantic relationship with Holmes, explaining in his letter to the court that for the first six months they were “just friends.”
“I was admittedly hesitant to dive in given all that had been said,” he wrote. “I was naturally conflicted, the person I knew did not align with the narrative others had crafted.”
Eventually, his strong feelings for her won out and Evans proposed in 2018 after they attended a Taylor Swift concert together, using a silver snake ring that he purchased at the concert, according to People.
Billy Evans and Elizabeth Holmes Lived in Truck While Avoiding Media Spotlight
As their relationship got underway, Holmes went to extreme efforts to try to avoid the intense media spotlight, wearing disguises in public and even spending months living in a truck after their San Francisco address was leaked, Evans described in his letter.
“We spent six months traveling the national forests and parks of this country in a truck camping beneath the stars,” Evans wrote, per ABC 7. “While this nomadic life was my idea, Liz embraced the frenetic beauty of it, and we often reminisce about how it was the favorite place we ever lived. The peace and quiet out of the spotlight was refreshing. Walmart parking lots and rundown campgrounds gave us a much-needed solace.”
Who Are Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans Children?
Holmes—once named by Forbes as the world’s youngest self-made woman billionaire—revealed that she was pregnant in March 2021 in court documents filed by her attorneys. They requested that her criminal trial be pushed back from its scheduled July start date as a result of the pregnancy, Fox Business reported.
Holmes welcomed son William Holmes Evans on July 10 in Redwood City, California, the outlet reported. Her high-profile trial began the next month.
Holmes was convicted in January 2022 of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud after prosecutors said she collected millions from investors while falsely claiming that Theranos’ blood testing device worked.
After her conviction, in February 2023, Holmes gave birth to daughter Invicta, according to court documents filed by her attorneys and obtained by CBS News.
Though her legal team argued that she should remain free as she appealed her conviction, she reported to federal prison to begin her 11-year sentence on May 30 of that year, The New York Times reported.

“I always wanted to be a mother,” she told People in February 2025 of her decision to have children. “I truly did not think I would ever be convicted or found guilty.”
What is Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans Life Like Today?
Now living behind bars at a federal prison in Bryan, Texas, Holmes gets frequent visits from Evans and their two children.
She told People in 2025 that saying goodbye to her family “shatters my world every single time.”
As she explained, “The people I love the most have to walk away as I stand here, a prisoner, and my reality sinks in.”
Her projected release date is Feb. 22, 2030 after receiving time off for good behavior, according to federal prison records reviewed by Oxygen.
Oxygen reached out to Holmes’ attorney for additional comment, but did not receive an immediate reply.
Billy Evans Launches New Blood Testing Company
While Holmes is in prison, Evans has launched a new blood testing company of his own, Haemanthus. His Linkedin profile lists him as the company’s chief executive officer.
According to marketing materials reviewed by The New York Times, the company will offer “a radically new approach to health testing” by using a laser device to scan blood, saliva or urine for health screenings.
The company plans to begin by catering to pets and the veterinary space, before ultimately moving into human testing, the outlet reported.
“We’re Haemanthus. Yes, our CEO, Billy Evans, is Elizabeth Holmes’ partner,” the company wrote on X after The New York Times broke the story. “Skepticism is rational. We must clear a higher bar.”
The company promised to deliver “unfiltered truth” and claimed they were not going to be “Theranos 2.0.”
“Theranos attempted to miniaturize existing tests. Our approach is fundamentally different,” the brand wrote. “We use light to read the complete molecular story in biological fluids, seeing patterns current tests can’t detect. Not an improvement. A different paradigm.”
Holmes is not listed on any of the company’s marketing materials, but she did tell People in 2025 that she hopes to get back into the healthcare space after her release.
“There is not a day I have not continued to work on my research and inventions,” she said. “I remain completely committed to my dream of making affordable healthcare solutions available to everyone.”
Nathan Fielder’s You Can See Everything to Give Unparalleled Access to Couple
The dynamic between Holmes and Evans will be explored even further in the documentary You Can See Everything, released Oct. 16. The film follows the couple in the weeks leading up when Holmes reported to prison.
Nathan Fielder—who directed the film alongside Lance Oppenheim and spent days living with the couple—said in a Q&A after a screening of the film at the Telluride Film Festival that he was still trying to make sense of the couple’s dynamic.
The film will attempt to answer the question whether Holmes is being manipulated or is the manipulator herself, he said.
“I really am struggling to this day to understand exactly what I experienced,” Fielder said, according to Vanity Fair. “And one of the things I’m genuinely excited about is for this movie to come out and for people to help me understand what I experienced. Truly, to this day, I don’t quite know what I went through.”
He added that Holmes and Evans have not viewed the final film.
“Near the end of the process, Billy was trying to exert, we felt, a lot of control over the process,” he said, “and what he sort of had desired, and it sort of caused our communication to break down a little bit.”
