Why Was Sean Combs Sued By Ex-Girlfriend Cassie?
He has been accused of sexual abuse and assault by singer Cassie, born Casandra Ventura previously signed to his record label, according to a bombshell filing.
Sean Combs, who goes by P. Diddy, Puffy, or Diddy, was hit with a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court by his former girlfriend Cassie.
Cassie has been romantically linked to Combs for decades and was previously signed to his Bad Boy Records label.
In the suit, She claims that not long after she met Combs in 2005 when she was 19, he began a pattern of control and abuse that led her to live a “lifestyle of excessive alcohol and substance abuse.”
She also accused the Bad Boy for Life rapper of forcing her to have sex with a succession of male prostitutes while he filmed the encounters. Because these acts occurred in multiple cities, the suit classifies it as sex trafficking.
In 2018, Combs forced his way into her home and sexually assaulted her while she “repeatedly said ‘no’ and tried to push him away.” according to the lawsuit.
“Throughout their relationship, Mr. Combs was prone to uncontrollable rage, and frequently beat Ms. Ventura savagely,” the suit claims.
“These beatings were witnessed by Mr. Combs’ staff and employees of Bad Boy Entertainment and Mr. Combs’s related businesses, but no one dared to speak up against their frightening and ferocious boss.”
She stated numerous occasions over the years in which Combs assaulted Ventura to the point of injury and wielded control over her finances in addition to her career. Ventura began a relationship with Kid Cudi in 2012; she claims that Combs was so angry about her dating the rapper that he threatened to blow up his car. A representative for Kid Cudi confirmed to the Times that not long after Combs’ threats, his car exploded in his driveway.
She released a statement saying she’s finally ready to speak out after years of silence.
“After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships,” She said.
“With the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act fast approaching, it became clear that this was an opportunity to speak up about the trauma she has experienced and that she will be recovering from for the rest of her life.”
Combs denied the allegations and he called the suit baseless as part of Cassie’s attempt to seek a payday.
“Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations,” Comb’s attorney, Ben Brafman, said in a statement to The New York Times.
“For the past six months, Mr. Combs has been subjected to Ms. Venturea’s persistent demand of $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail.
“Despite withdrawing her initial threat, Ms. Ventura has not resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr. Comb’s reputation and seeking a payday.”
Cassie’s attorney, Douglas Wigdor, claims the parties spoke before the lawsuit was filed.
Mr. Combs offered Ms. Ventura eight figures to silence her and prevent the filing of this lawsuit. but she rejected it, according to her attorney.
Combs, 54, has been one of the most influential artists in hip-hop since founding Bad Boy Records in 1993 and his net worth is estimated to be as much as $1 billion, according to Forbes.
