The final episode of Season 14, “The Road Trip,” focused on the shocking murder of Dr. Teresa Sievers. The mom of two was making a name for herself in the field of holistic medicine and dreamed of one day taking her message to a national television audience. That dream was cut short when she was found bludgeoned to death on her kitchen floor in Florida just after returning home early from a family vacation by herself. Detectives struggled to find a motive for the brutal murder until they received an unexpected tip from a woman hundreds of miles away, who shared a surprising story that would change the direction of the entire investigation.
Across the country in Nevada, another victim’s life was extinguished too soon, as seen in “Part of the Plan.” Staff Sgt. Nathan Paet, a young married father of four, was headed out to work the graveyard shift at Nellis Air Force Base when he was ambushed in his garage and fatally shot. Detectives were determined to piece together the crime that rocked the normally quiet neighborhood of Mountain’s Edge, located 13 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. They ultimately uncovered a plot so sinister that one veteran detective dubbed it “almost more than you could bear as a human being.”
Kelsie Schelling was on the verge of starting an exciting new chapter in her life when she mysteriously disappeared after leaving work in February of 2013. The episode, titled “The Night Kelsie Disappeared,” retraced Schelling’s final movements that day, beginning with a sonogram appointment to confirm the 21-year-old’s pregnancy. After working her regular shift at a Colorado flooring store, she got into her car and drove off into the night before vanishing. It would take years to determine what happened to the mom-to-be and bring the person responsible for her disappearance to justice.
