A Texas woman allegedly struck her former boyfriend and his new girlfriend with an SUV after the two women exchanged “derogatory remarks,” according to police.
Dionisiah Edwards-Carpeal, 36, faces murder and aggravated assault charges. Investigators say she drove into her ex-boyfriend and his new partner, killing the woman.
Police responded to a parking lot on Datapoint Dr. in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday after receiving reports of a fight, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by local CBS affiliate KENS. Officers found the female victim, whose identity had not been publicly released, suffering from life-threatening injuries. She later died at a hospital.
Witnesses told investigators that a silver SUV had run over the victim.
The affidavit states that blood found at the scene was “consistent with a person having been dragged across the pavement.”
Police interviewed three witnesses, including Edwards-Carpeal’s former boyfriend, who investigators say was also struck by the SUV. He reportedly rolled off the hood and was not seriously hurt. The man told police he and Edwards-Carpeal had been together for six years before ending their relationship. Although they remained in contact afterward, he stopped responding to her after beginning a relationship with the victim.
On Monday, the man and the victim encountered Edwards-Carpeal while walking home after stopping at a Wendy’s. Police said Edwards-Carpeal followed the couple in her SUV and tried to speak with her former boyfriend. A security guard approached the vehicle, and the man told him Edwards-Carpeal was “following and harassing them.”
According to the affidavit, Edwards-Carpeal and the victim exchanged “derogatory remarks.” The couple then began walking away. When they moved in front of the SUV, Edwards-Carpeal allegedly accelerated into them, striking both people. Police said the victim was briefly dragged beneath the vehicle before being run over.
Witnesses said Edwards-Carpeal stopped and looked at the victim before driving away.
The security guard photographed the SUV, helping police identify Edwards-Carpeal as the suspect.
Edwards-Carpeal was booked into jail and posted $400,000 bond on Tuesday. As a condition of her release, she was ordered to remain under house arrest and wear a GPS monitor. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 11, 2027.
