Woman Angry Over $15 Broken Nail Repair Opens Fire on Salon With Nearly 20 Inside, Police Say

An Arizona woman angry about paying $15 to repair a broken fingernail allegedly opened fire at a Phoenix nail salon while nearly 20 people were inside, telling police she wanted to frighten employees into fixing the nail for free, authorities said.

Essence Mire, 26, has been charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm at a nonresidence, discharging a firearm within city limits and assault in connection with the alleged shooting at the salon.

Police said Mire left the scene after the gunfire and was later taken into custody at her home in Maricopa County, near Interstate 17 and Northern Avenue. Investigators say she admitted punching a salon employee in the face and firing at the business in an effort to intimidate workers into providing the manicure repair at no cost.

Mire was being held this week on a $100,000 bond.
