GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Cassandra Ann Davis, 61, was arrested late last night and charged with failing to stop after a crash involving serious injury and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage after allegedly making an improper turn and hitting a motorcyclist who was trauma-alerted to the hospital, then driving home.
At about 8:43 p.m. last night, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to a report that a motorcyclist and car had been hit in the 800 block of NE Waldo Road. A witness told the officer that a vehicle later traced to Davis turned in front of an approaching motorcyclist who was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting her car; the motorcyclist reportedly landed on the hood of her car. Davis’ car also reportedly side-swiped another car before driving away.
The motorcyclist told the officer that he had a green light when the car cut him off. He was able to walk to the sidewalk after the accident, but he was later trauma-alerted to the hospital due to internal injuries.
The officer began taking pictures of the crash scene and found a piece of the car’s fender on the ground; the fender had a VIN number, and officers found that Davis is the registered owner of the car.

Two officers went to the address connected with the car registration and made contact with Davis. The officers reported that they found a car parked near the house under a car cover and asked if they could look at it. Davis reportedly gave her consent, and the car was reportedly missing the front fender and had significant damage including a cracked windshield.
Post Miranda, Davis reportedly said she was driving southbound on NE Waldo Road and made a left turn on NE 8th Avenue with a yellow light. She said she did not see the approaching motorcycle as she turned and that she left the scene of the accident because her driver’s license is not valid. She said she did not remember side-swiping the second car.
The motorcycle damage was approximately $4,000, and the damage to the car was estimated at $2,000.
Davis has one misdemeanor conviction (none violent). Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $198.
