Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lazariah Onshay King, 24, was arrested yesterday and charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling and aggravated domestic battery after allegedly trying to force her way into a residence and cutting a man with scissors.

King reportedly went to the victim’s residence, where the two argued and she demanded that he return some food she had given him. He reportedly threw the food onto the front lawn, at which point King became “furious” and allegedly punched the victim and tore his shirt. The victim reportedly tried to go inside to get away from King, and she allegedly followed him onto the porch, still trying to punch and hit him, and eventually forced her way onto the porch and inside the front door.

The victim told a Gainesville Police Department officer that he struggled with King and was able to push her away from the front door and off the porch. King then allegedly went to her car, came back with a pair of scissors, and kicked the door in, breaking the door frame.

King allegedly cut the victim’s hand, and he also had a small cut under his eye.

Post Miranda, King reportedly said the victim threw the food at her and hit her on the arm, then he attacked her. She denied kicking in the door or cutting the victim with the scissors, but she reportedly admitted that she hit him and tore his shirt.

King was arrested in February 2023 and charged with aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon after grabbing a knife to threaten a man who was her boyfriend at the time; she was released on her own recognizance but was charged with violating her pre-trial release conditions on March 29, when a sworn complaint was filed, alleging that she hit the same victim. Despite the new charge, the February charge was dropped on March 30, and the March charges were dropped in late April.

King has one felony conviction for grand theft. Judge Thomas Jaworski released her on her own recognizance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
